Program Description – Full-Time or Part-Time

The East-West Healing Arts Institute massage school offers an 800-hour program designed to be completed in 10 months. (A Part-time program is also available.)

What do you get?

You will be awarded a diploma that certifies completion of 800 hours of the Asian Bodywork and Therapeutic Massage Program™.

What will you learn?

You will gain a wide range of knowledge including traditional Eastern theory and modern Western science.

Eastern theory classes include Introduction to Chinese Medicine and Herbology, and Theory of Eastern Medicine (which will cover classic Chinese assessment techniques). Eastern practice includes extensive courses in TuiNa (Chinese medical massage), Acupressure Point Location and Indication, Tuina and Therapeutic Massage for Medical Conditions. As well as classes in Thai Massage, Reflexology, Zen Shiatsu, Chai Qiao, and more.

Western science classes include Clinical Pathology, Practical Anatomy, Musculoskeletal Anatomy, Kinesiology and Body Structure Assessment, Anatomy and Physiology, and Pathology. Western massage methods taught include Swedish massage, deep tissue, cranioSacral, myofascial, sports massage, prenatal massage, and more.

Our courses in professional ethics and business practices meet and exceed state guidelines! Before you work with clients, you will have already studied the range of ethical issues that massage therapists face. By the time you graduate from our program, you will have learned about the nuts and bolts of finding employment as a massage therapist and setting up your own practice.

We offer a comprehensive CPR/First Aid course that exceeds state guidelines for these topics.

You will gain a great deal of hands-on experience through the Student Clinic, Community Outreach Events, and the TuiNa and Acupressure Internship.

How does it work?

Full-time program

Our full-time program consists of five terms, 8 weeks per term, equaling 40 weeks of course work or approximately 10 months. Full-time students attend sixteen hours of classroom instruction per week.
The program offers 2 different schedules dependent on availability at time of enrollment: one weekday (9:00 am-5:30 pm) and one weekend day (9:00 am-5:30 pm) or two evenings (6:00 pm-10:00 pm) and one weekend day (9:00 am-5:30 pm). In addition to classroom instruction, students will fulfill hands-on integration coursework, detailed in the catalog on page 11 and meet outside classroom requirements.

Part-time program

Our part-time program consists of ten terms equaling approximately 64 weeks of coursework, in approximately 16 months. Part-time students attend between eight and sixteen hours of instruction per week. Dependent on availability at time of enrollment, part-time students attend class: one weekday (9:00 am-5:30 pm), two evenings (6:00 pm-10:00 pm) or one weekend day (9:00 am-5:30 pm).
Students are strongly encouraged to begin with the Western series (weekday classes) and proceed to the Eastern series (weekend days). Students who elect to start with the Eastern series (weekend class) must meet the pre-requisites before beginning hands-on integration courses. In addition to classroom instruction, students will fulfill hands-on integration coursework, detailed in the catalog on page 11 of the catalog and meet outside classroom requirements.
Students wishing to attend school part-time are encouraged to meet with the school administrator to review what their personalized schedule would look like.

East-West Healing Arts Institution program delivery is residential.

Massage Program

EWHAI’s Asian Bodywork & Therapeutic Massage Program offers an 800 hour training in Eastern & Western massage modailities. Our program is available to both full-time and part-time students at our Madison and Milwaukee campuses.
